The Hypertension department within the Cardiovascular Diseases Franchise at Merck is seeking a MD and/or PhD level scientist, recognized as an expert in cardiovascular physiology and pharmacology. The individual will be charged with advancing targets for the treament of hypertension in patient segments with high unmet medical need, pulmonary hypertension, and heart failure. Extensive experience in drug discovery and development in Cardiovascular Diseases and program leadership are highly desirable. The individual will be expected to engage and collaborate with cross-functional groups within and outside the Merck Research Laboratories as well as launch new initiatives and drive innovation. The individual will be instrumental in providing strategic input in to the target portfolio and preclinical animal models supporting the programs. The individual may also be expected to participate on early and late development teams, informing on preclinical studies to support product development. The individual will be expected to take part in the Hypertension-Leadership Team that oversees departmental administrative issues. Required for this position is a demonstrated ability to lead by influence. The individual should be highly self-motivated, possess strong written and oral communication skills, and be able to work productively in a cooperative team environment.
Qualifications
Education:
- MD and/or PhD
Required:
- > 10 years experience in CV physiology and pharmacology, recognized externally as an expert in the field.
- Expertise in at least one of three disease areas of interest (systemic hypertension, pulmonary hypertension and/or heart failure) is required.
- Demonstrated ability to launch new initiatives, drive innovation, and lead by influence.
Preferred:
- Experience in drug discovery and development as well as experience leading drug discovery and development programs in the area of cardiovascular diseases are highly desirable.
