This scientific position will require the development of novel statistical methods, as well as the application of these and existing methods to answer questions in clinical drug development. Resulting discoveries will lead to the development of new and/or existing pharmaceutical products. Primary activities include providing statistical support in terms of study design and analysis of the clinical data and biomarkers (including genetic or molecular profiling endpoints) in human trials. Position will collaborate extensively with subject-area experts, clinical and preclinical statisticians, and other appropriate groups in developing new statistical methodology and participation in the direction of research, especially in complex trait genetics. An important element of this position is the timely publication of research and development findings, and maintaining appropriate external contacts (e.g., industry groups, regulatory agencies, academic and research organizations) which further the objectives and reputation of Merck in the area of biomarker discovery (including statistical genetics and expression of genes).<br/><br/><B><B>Qualifications</b></B><br/><br/>Education Minimum Requirement:<br/><br/>* Candidates should have a PhD in Statistics or Bioinformatics or MS with significant clinical pharmacogenomic experience (at least 5 years).<br/><br/><B>Required:</b><br/><br/>* A specialization and relevant job experience in statistical genetics/genomics and knowledge about genotyping and microarray data is a must.<br/>* Excellent communication and organizational skills required.<br/>* Must be articulate in oral and written presentations to internal scientific and managerial review meetings and to regulatory agencies.<br/>* Must have working knowledge in the use of SAS and R/Splus.<br/>* Creative thinking, the development of original concepts, advanced knowledge of both statistics and genetics, and unusual resourcefulness are essential for performance in this position.<br/><br/>Preferred:<br/><br/>* Ideally, the candidate will also have a background in molecular profiling in a clinical trial setting; a background in life sciences is also acceptable.<br/>* Understanding of relational databases would be an advantage.<br/>* Ability to utilize and interpret bioinformatics tools would be an extra bonus.<br/><br/>Our employees are the key to our company's success.
