The Sr. Specialist, Engineering, Packaging Combination Products Commercialization will report to the Director of Packaging Commercialization (steriles). The successful candidate will focus on new product package development for delivery of pharmaceuticals (vaccines, large and small molecules) as well as input to primary packaging for the drug component and secondary packaging of medical device and combination products. 


Through participation on an integrated development and supply team, the successful candidate will collaborate with peers in formulation and analytical development as well as Supply Chain and Marketing to provide technical guidance during the development of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging for new sterile pharmaceutical products. Packaging responsibilities include selection of primary packaging material, determination of package images to support commercialization as well as coordination of shipping distribution studies to test robustness of packages. The successful candidate will author packaging specifications for primary, secondary and tertiary packaging as well as relevant sections of NDA’s, WMA’s, and JNDA’s as well as interface with Packaging Site Operations on development line trials, and Packaging Qualification.


The successful candidate will have strong technical, analytical, and problem solving skills to aid in assessing technical, regulatory, and business risks and benefits for complex projects while leading cross-functional teams both internally and externally in a fast paced environment



Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement: 

  • A Bachelors of Science is required, a higher degree in Packaging Science or Packaging Engineering is preferred

Required Experience and Skills:
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the use of Design of Experiments (DOE) and Risk Assessment tools
  • Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional groups both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated project management experience and ability to provide technical leadership for complex projects while managing multiple projects in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent technical communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current US, and global Regulations, ICH guidance, ISO standards, and quality system regulations for pharmaceutical packaging

Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Demonstrated understanding of pharmaceutical development process and ability to design, develop, and test primary and secondary packaging components
  • Demonstrated understanding of Medical Device and Combination Product regulations
