Senior Specialist, Medical Services
Location: Montreal, Quebec

Reporting to the Associate Director, Medical Services, the Senior Specialist (SS) is part of a team that shares the responsibilities of medical information, medical reviews and training on all Merck Canada vaccines and products for human health.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Medical Information:  The SS answers to medical inquiries from external customers, i.e. health care professionals, on all Merck Canada vaccines and products for human health.  The SS conducts literature searches if required and provides either a verbal or written response in the language of the customer (English or French).
  • Medical Review:  The SS reviews all Merck promotional or non-promotional material with medical content and/or with content on products in his/her assigned therapeutic area.  These materials can originate from any units, i.e. Marketing, Commercial Operations, Learning and Development, Access Strategy, Public Affairs, etc.  The SS is part of the Material Review team with Legal and Compliance.  The SS may perform material reviews for both English and French versions.
  • Medical Training:  In collaboration with colleagues in Learning and Development and the medical advisors or medical science liaisons, the SS is responsible to provide medical training to sales representatives in his/her assigned therapeutic area.   
  • The SS is also responsible to keep the Medical Services team informed on new products and new information related to his/her assigned therapeutic area.  
  • Medical Allocation: When needed, the SS may have to manage limited product supply following a pre-approved medical allocation process.

Other Responsibilities

  • As needed, the SS may need to perform medical assessments for a variety of situations (revised product monographs, Pre-Licensed Patient Access requests for Merck products, emergency products, etc.).
  • Other responsibilities may be added based on the Medical Affairs needs.




  • University degree in Pharmacy or Medicine.
  • Practical knowledge in a clinical setting, i.e. working in pharmacies, hospital, nursing homes, in close contact with patients and/or health care professionals.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of pharmaceutical products.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and fast learner.
  • Efficient in finding relevant scientific and medical information, able to analyze and summarize data and effectively communicate the results.
  • Good team player and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Results oriented, consistently delivers quality work and meets deadlines.
  • Detail oriented, well organised and comfortable with change in daily priorities.
  • Efficient negotiating skills, diplomacy and tact; excellent ethics, rigor and integrity.
  • Excellent written / oral communication skills in both French and English.
