This Associate Director, HR Business Partner position in Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) will be the HR Lead for our Cambridge Exploratory Science Center in Kendall Square and provide HR Business partner support for select other functions. The HRBP will lead the HR initiatives, programs and operations in support of our Discovery Strategy for designated client groups. This position will drive all talent management strategies and programs including talent acquisition and development, rewards & recognition, employee engagement and retention, and organizational design. In addition to HR Business Partner responsibilities, this role will have a focus on Early Talent across Merck Research Laboratories (in the US) and help drive our Intern, Co-Op and Post Doc programs.

Responsibilities include:
  • Partner with leadership on HR related programs that enable a strong collaborative culture of innovation, commitment and scientific exploration
  • Partner with management on overall talent management, workforce planning strategies, hiring plans, recruitment & selection strategies and onboarding process
  • Partner with Recruiting and Staffing to provide oversight on implementation of workforce hiring plan
  • Coach managers on leadership development, talent management and employee relations matters
  • Partner with CoE’s to administer local compensation & benefits programs
  • Ensure compliance with all state & federal employment programs and practices
  • Partner with University Relations group to provide a positive, cohesive experience for Merck Research Laboratory Interns and Co-Ops
  • Participate in our Post Doc Committee and be the HR Representative for this program

Education Minimum Requirement:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related discipling
Required Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 6 years’ experience as an HR Business Partner, in an HR COE or in HR Operations role or Masters’ degree plus 4 years’ experience.
  • Demonstrated HR functional competence in one or more HR disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively influence, consult with and coach senior leaders and managers
  • Ability to think strategically and still maintain an attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to lead open and effective dialog and craft and deliver compelling messages internally
  • Proven ability to demonstrate and foster collaboration among peers and extended HR organization
  • Experience navigating and leverage HR systems to gather data to support client consultation
  • Assertive, self-starter and independent quick-thinker
Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Demonstrated experience in organizational development such as organizational design, change management, shaping an organization’s culture
  • Knowledge of local employment legal practices and policies
  • Experience in Boston/Cambridge biotech, innovative environment
