The Discovery Biologics group at Merck Research Lab (MRL) in Boston, MA is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Scientist.  You will be responsible for the detailed analytical characterization of early drug candidates using mass spectrometry, as well as HPLC/UPLC based methods (SEC, RP), light scattering (SEC-MALS), thermal stability (DSF, DSC) and capillary electrophoresis-based methods (CE-SDS, cIEF).  You will have a proven track record of analytical and biophysical characterization of diverse biologic molecules, including monoclonal antibodies, bi/multi-specifics, Fc-fusion proteins, peptides and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).

Qualifications

Education  Requirements:

 

A minimum of Master’s Degree with at least 5 years relevant experience  OR a PhD with at least 1 year of relevant experience in Biochemistry, Engineering, Protein Chemistry, Life Sciences or related discipline.

 

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Hands on experience with LC/MS based methods for detailed characterization of biologics molecules, including mass determination, glycan-analysis, peptide mapping, and characterization of post-translational modifications

  • Experience with bioanalytical characterization of biologics using HPLC/UPLC based methods including SEC and reverse phase chromatography, including method development, validation and running routine characterization to support fast paced biologics discovery

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to present scientific data in a group setting, as well as detailed report generation

  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects

  • Ability to adapt to changing project priorities and meet timelines

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment across functional areas within a matrixed organization

 

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Familiarity with high throughput systems for the detailed characterization of large numbers of biologics molecules

  • Hands-on experience with high throughput method development, execution and data tracking is a plus 

  • Antibody conjugation and analysis experience
