At Merck, we are using a range of modalities to positively impact human diseases in key Therapeutic Areas. One modality that we are exploring is the enhancement of the ability of the human immune system to eradicate tumors using Oncolytic viruses which directly kill tumor cells and activate innate and acquired immunity.  We have recently made key investments in the Oncolytic virus arena, and are expanding these investments in the development of our capabilities in this space. To this end, we are hiring a Scientist to contribute to our internal Oncolytic Virus engineering efforts as part of a larger team discovering novel Cancer therapeutics. The successful candidate will have knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology and virology (preferred but not required), and most importantly hands-on experience in the areas of DNA/RNA manipulation, cell culture, nucleic acid and protein analysis.


Education Minimum Requirement:

• A bachelor degree with additional 5 years of academic or industrial experience (or M.S. with additional 2 years of experience) in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology or Virology or a closely related field is required.

Required Experience and Skills**:

• Knowledge and hands on experience on DNA/RNA molecular biology including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, electrophoresis, sequencing, molecular cloning, etc;

• Extensive experience on mammalian cell culture and handling;

• Ability to work with minimal supervision;

• Excellent capability of experiment data collection, management, and record keeping.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Experience of working in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) facility on handling, growth and titration of viruses

• Knowledge and experience in viral analytics using plague assay, TCID50, IFA, ELISA or qPCR,etc.
