Position Description


The Associate Director, Global Marketing, New Product Lead (NPL) role has responsibility to interface with all Merck head-quartered divisions as well as the key 6 markets to provide strategic insight into customer needs (patients, individuals, health care practitioners, payers, governments, policy makers, patient advocates, etc) as well as effectively drive the integration of commercial considerations into early product development and pre-commercialization planning.


This role interfaces with: - Merck Research Laboratories (MRL): Basic Science, Translational/Pharmacology, Early and Late Development Teams (EDTs and PDTs), Global Clinical Development (GCD), CORE, Global Medical Affairs (GMA), Global Regulatory Affairs, etc - GHH franchises and departments such as Global Market Access (GMAx), Global Commercial Capabilities GCC), Digital Accelerator COE, etc - Global Policy and Communication - Merck Manufacturing Division (MMD) - 6 key markets: 

US, Japan, China, France, Germany and UK

Additionally, this role interfaces with Corporate and MRL Business Development & Licensing teams, and GHH Global Commercial Assessment (GCA) to contribute to the value assessment of external compounds.


Specific accountabilities include:
  • Required to have a strong working level of knowledge of current science and novel mechanisms of action within the assigned therapeutic areas
  • Have a comprehensive and credible view of commercial needs to effectively market a product, and ensure that any early viewpoint is communicated with the early research and development teams, as well as the key GHH, MRL, Global Policy and MMD partners involved in the development of a product integrated strategy 
  • Seek to understand early development strategy and plans of assigned therapeutic areas and communicate them effectively to the Global Marketing Pharma team as needed
  • Understand how to use the Merck Marketing tools and Merck Marketing excellence process to develop product strategy, positioning and value proposition for target audiences, guide access/ reimbursement and policy planning, and inform clinical development plans to effectively address customer needs
  • Collaborate effectively across functional areas, ensuring commercial perspective is incorporated in early product development
  • Accountable to continue deep learning on the science and buying process/patient journey of the different markets within the assigned therapeutic areas
  • Accountable to continue deep learning on the 3 strategic pillars of GHH strategy, Digital and Data Analytics, Patient-Focused Experience, and Value Demonstration and Affordability, and how to effectively apply it to early product development


Qualifications

Position Qualifications:


Education Minimum Requirement: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Proven ability to work in a matrixed organization with multiple stakeholders
Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • 5+ pharmaceutical industry experience
  • 3+ years of marketing experience, specifically experience in developing & executing marketing strategy
  • Experience working with R&D organization
  • MBA or equivalent degree
