The Market Research Associate Director will be a main point of contact for the PD1 Marketing/Commercial Team within the Oncology Franchise.

The position will plan, manage, and execute detailed analytics and data analysis that spans multiple indications and both pre-launch and post-launch projects.  Responsible for providing strategic input to the extended global team via secondary data analysis and adhoc analytic requests by proactively identifying strategic insights, answering key business questions, and applying analytics on a wide range of large and complex data resources to produce actionable business solutions and recommendations.

  • Requires a strong understanding of secondary data sets and how to use them to produce specific and actionable customer insights. Experience working in Data Science, Data Analytics, or related fields is required. Pharmaceutical or other healthcare experience (especially within Oncology) is preferred.
  • Requires strong skills in communication and presenting insights from data to a broad range of stakeholders, including senior leadership in a commercial organization. Requires skills in working within (and leading) large, cross-functional teams to complete specific analyses to address specific business questions.

This individual is expected to be an exceptional team player who can comfortably interact with and add value to the existing team of multiple market research team members working within the Oncology franchise and who also can comfortably partner with extended oncology team members including pricing and access, sales, marketing, and other market research colleagues responsible for specific indications. 

The individual should also be able to proactively identify business opportunities for the Oncology Franchise.  At the same time, this individual will have demonstrated consistently strong leadership skills with an ability to work independently in a rapidly changing environment with a transformational mindset, cultural awareness, and resiliency to change that enables them to effectively produce results for individual areas of responsibility. 


  • Work closely with stakeholders in Marketing and other related functions to identify specific business questions to address; work independently and with other analytics team members to design the best analyses to answer those questions. Clearly articulate the rationale, hypotheses, and methodology of analytical approaches to stakeholders. Deliver the results of those analyses in a clear and succinct way to key stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Synthesize data across varied datasets to arrive at a comprehensive and integrated understanding of customer behaviors and needs.
  • Design and lead adhoc initiatives and special projects as needed, utilizing project management best practices. These initiatives will often focus on data evaluation, business rule development, and specific analysis requests.
  • Design and execute new weekly or monthly performance summary reports.
  • Evaluate new datasets and data vendors, based on specific business requirements.
  • Manage data purchases and ongoing budget management for those purchases from a range of data vendors.
  • Oversee the development of weekly and monthly performance reports from a broad range of data assets. Clean datasets (using SQL, R, Python, or other tools when necessary), design repeatable processes to create professional reports for key stakeholders, identify and articulate key trends and takeaways from the performance reports, answer questions from stakeholders about the reports.
  • Actively explore alternative/creative ways of meeting an information need, considering new and cutting analytical techniques alongside more traditional approaches to effectively and efficiently address business needs.
  • Complete complex analyses using available secondary data, syndicated reports and databases and integrates findings into primary market research efforts to tell and evolve the "story".
  • Proactively communicate and facilitate discussion with Marketing/Commercial Teams to ensure that insights are considered in decision-making and planning; integrates a variety of sources/studies to present strategic options to the extended team; provides consultative guidance to Marketing/Commercial Team(s).
  • Collaborate proactively with cross-functional business partners including marketing communications, market access colleagues, commercial team, and the advertising agency to ensure optimal integration for the launch and post-launch activities.
  • Design and lead analyses to inform the strategic assumptions that are built into brand forecasts and tracking of key performance indicators and  benchmarking dashboards.
  • Independently manage competing priorities and demands from within a product team/franchise applying best practices and innovative techniques maximize value and actionable output. 
  • Take full ownership of understanding the business challenge/information needs, consider alternatives, propose appropriate method/approach, apply best practices, and proactively consider and/or develop new techniques and innovations to meet objectives.



Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Preference - Post Graduate Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Quantitative Methods, related area of study and/or MBA

Required Experience and Skills:

  • At least 3 years of experience in Data Science, Data Analytics, or related fields.
  • Strong experience analyzing large and complex datasets, pulling customer insights relevant to specific business objectives, and presenting those insights in a clear and succinct way.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and Python and/or R in the context of data analytics.
  • Experience visualizing data to highlight important trends or insights.
  • Working knowledge of at least 1 common data visualization tool (Spotfire, Tableau, or Qlik).
  • Working knowledge of basic statistical concepts and experience running statistical analyses in a commercial context.
  • Well developed analytical skills, strong problem-solving and demonstrated ability to think strategically and objectively.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including experience presenting analytical insights to senior leadership in a commercial organization.
  • Ability and comfort in prioritizing and managing multiple requests from multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry is preferred. Experience in Oncology or other specialty therapy areas is preferred.
  • Experience utilizing common oncology data sources (medical claims, EMR, syndicated sources) is preferred.
  • Past roles supporting sales, forecasting, access and pricing, marketing, or competitive intelligence is preferred.
  • Experience leading small teams is preferred.
  • Orientation toward collaboration/ team work, ability to lead teams in execution of market research, interest in ongoing learning.
  • Strong leadership skills around customer focus, decision making, courage & candor, and fostering collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and a strong desire to lead change in terms of developing best practices.
