The HIV New Products Leader role provides an exciting opportunity to be a leader in shifting the HIV treatment and prevention paradigms. In this role, the HIV NPL will lead a commercial team responsible for MK-8591 based regimens currently in early stage development. The HIV NPL will be responsible to drive one of the largest growth opportunities in the Merck pipeline, leveraging the potency, durable treatment effect and tissue distribution properties of MK-8591. This will require innovative approaches to market shaping and market expansion, and will see Merck enter into what is essentially a new market, in HIV Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). 


The Executive Director, HIV New Products Leader, will play an important role as we seek to drive growth and optimize patient access to our important portfolio of HIV products! This leader has responsibility to autonomously interface with MRL basic science, translational/pharmacology and early development teams as well as later stage Product Development Teams and the Clinical development and Regulatory organizations to provide strategic insight into customer needs (patients, health care practitioners, payers/governments) as well as effectively drive the integration of commercial considerations into product planning. This role has the responsibility to interface with GHH franchises and departments such as Global Market Access, Global Commercial Capabilities, Digital Accelerator COE, etc, with MRL CORE department, and with Global Policy to develop strategic insights into customer needs and drive the development of an integrated strategy for all new HIV compounds entering clinical development. This leader will also be on the cutting edge of transformation as we continue to adopt the three strategic priorities for GHH – Digital, Value Demonstration & Affordability, and Patient Focused Customer Experience.


Specific accountabilities include:

  • Oversee realization of the vision for the early stage MK-8591 assets and contribute to the realization of the overall vision of the HIV franchise
  • Manage a team of highly talented global marketers, optimizing portfolio performance while driving individual professional development
  • Required to have a strong working level of knowledge of current science and novel mechanisms of action in HIV
  • Partner with MRL to optimize early development team (EDT) and product development team (PDT) support of MK-8591 assets 
  • Partner with Key 6 and other markets as well as Regional Market Leaders (RMLs) to define integrated business strategy for MK-8591 regimens
  • Collaborate with Business Development Team (Global and Regional) to identify, if necessary, complementary assets to those currently existing within the HIV pipeline
  • Work closely with Early Development Commercial Leads to ensure commercial insights within the HIV space are leveraged in the development of pre-phase III assets 
  • Drive forward digital innovation, focused on optimization of analytics as well as customer communication channels
  • Engage policy team to identify relevant policy levers to support access to innovation in the HIV PrEP and Treatment areas
  • Maintain strong level of collaboration with MMD colleagues to inform short-term and long-term supply chain decisions
  • Partner with MRL CORE team to ensure real world evidence plan is fully aligned with portfolio priorities.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Bachelor Degree required. 
  • Advanced degree preferred.
Required:
  • Minimum of 10 years combined marketing, sales, marketing support or related experiences in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries.
Preferred:
  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading with and without authority.
  • Collaboration: Strong collaboration skills.
  • Communication: Ability to clearly articulate messages/information across the enterprise and to all levels, including highest levels of senior leadership
  • Understanding of Drug Development Process (Early and Late Stage)
  • Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to analyze complex data and create clear patient and customer centric strategies
  • Focus on Results: Driven, results oriented thinking and corresponding high level of performance
  • Innovative Thinking: Demonstrated ability to leverage innovation to drive results
