You will receive your formal offer via email and your Workday inbox. Please save a copy of your offer letter for your records.
You will be asked to formally accept the offer.
You will be provided with an overview of the next steps to secure your employment clearances, work eligibility, and additional information to help you prepare for your first day at work.
Who Will You Hear From?
The recruiter you have been working with will contact you with your verbal and written employment offer.
Once your offer is accepted, you will be assigned a New Employee Administration (NEA) Analyst. The NEA Analyst is your primary contact who will guide you through the background process.
What Action Should You Take?
E-sign and accept your employment offer letter via Workday. Note:Workday log-in credentials were sent when you applied for the position.
Thoroughly review the information contained in the “Welcome Letter” emailed to you from your NEA Analyst.

What Can You Expect?
At Merck, we utilize a Global Background Check program to conduct background screenings on newly hired and rehired employees.
This program helps us make informed, quality hiring decisions to support our business needs while adhering to local laws and regulations.
The contingency check comprises of a background screen (education information and employment background) and drug screen.
This process typically takes 10-15 business days to complete.
You will be notified once you successfully complete all required pre-employment contingencies.
Who Will You Hear From?
Your NEA Analyst will provide you with an overview of the pre-employment contingency check process.
First Advantage, our pre-employment contingency vendor, will contact you directly via email (“Request for Information”) to facilitate the screening.
What Action Should You Take?
Log into the First Advantage “Profile Advantage” system with your unique Application ID in order to register and create your password.
Please submit all required information into First Advantage’s Profile Advantage system within 72 hours of receipt of the email.
Complete your drug screen within 48 hours of receipt of that information.
Note:We do not advise altering your current employment status until these contingencies have been met and we contact you directly to confirm.
What Can You Expect?
The company and your hiring manager will begin planning for the support items you need in your new role (e.g. equipment, space, etc.).
Within your first two weeks of employment, you will be invited to an online New Employee Benefits Orientation via WebEx. In advance of that meeting, it is recommended you review the company’s benefits at www.benefitsatmerck.com
Default Coverage starts on your hire date.
Who Will You Hear From?
Your NEA Analyst will advise of your employment contingency completion, reach out to you to confirm your start date, and provide instructions for your first day.
Once your start date is confirmed, you will receive an email with login instructions for Workday, our cloud-based HR system.
You will receive an email from Form I-9 Compliance with instructions for completing your eligibility to work information (I-9).
What Action Should You Take?
Return your signed Conditions of Employment document via email within 48 hours of receipt from NEA.
Complete Section 1 of the I-9 Form electronically.
Log into Workday to update your personal information and complete your onboarding tasks in advance of your first day. Note:It is imperative your personal data is updated prior to your first day of employment to ensure there are no delays in your pay or benefits.
Arrive at the agreed upon date, time and location – and bring the appropriate I-9 documentation with you on your first day of employment.
Memorize your Worldwide Identification Number (WIN), as it will be used throughout your career at Merck.
